It grinds the beans in an instant before brewing, and there are numerous settings on the machine, so that you can adjust the strength and temperature of the coffee, ensuring that it will be exactly to your liking. You can also pre-program the machine to make coffee for you in the morning (a miracle of modern technology). I have found the coffee produced by this machine to be smooth, not at all acidic ... about the best coffee I've ever had outside of Starbucks.

The BAD news is that this coffeemaker is a distinct pain to clean. There are lots of parts, each of which has to be removed and cleaned each and every time you want to brew a pot (you can't simply add a new filter and go). There is a lot of rinsing, and you have to make sure that the grinding basket is DRY before brewing another pot.

All of this, however, is worth it if you want great coffee, as the cost isn't that bad. There's something beautiful about being awakened in the morning by the sound of coffee beans grinding. Overall, I've been very happy with this product and would certainly buy it again if I had to do it all over.

The gourmet coffee shop in your kitchen
The Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup Coffee Maker truly is a gourmet coffee shop in your kitchen. It is easy to use, cleans quickly and you never need another paper filter again. Programming functions such as when to brew that first pot, or how hot you like your coffee is a snap. There are a few tricks to get things just right, like:(1) If you put in pre ground coffee you need to disable the grinding feature. (2) Buy some fresh beans from your favorite gourmet coffee shop. Try just 1/2 pound. (3) Experiment with the flavor strength knob inside the unit until you get it the way you like your coffee. (4) Remember for different brands of coffee (i.e.. not from the same supplier you may have to adjust the number of measures for each cup. For example, I get a hazelnut coffee from a local shop and use eight level measures for an 8-cup pot. Another hazelnut coffee from Green Mountain roasters, I have to add, an additional measure for an 8-cup pot. After experimenting and getting it just right, you will have that gourmet coffee shop right in your kitchen.

Cuisinart DCC-755 10-cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker Bundle With Two Porcelain 12OZ. Even more, the fully automatic appliance offers 24-hour programmability, which makes it possible to wake up to the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee or to have a pot ready and waiting to serve with dessert--no need to get up from the table half way through dinner. For those less than leisurely mornings or for those just a little less patient when it comes to enjoying that first sip, the coffeemaker's Brew Pause function suspends the brewing cycle to allow for pouring a quick cup midbrew. Other thoughtful details include a gold-tone filter and a charcoal water filter, self-clean and 1- to 4-cup settings, and a 60-second reset setting that "remembers" where it was in the brewing process in case the power source gets interrupted. I can't seem to pour it in the maker itself or into a cup without spilling water or coffee. It's a very cute coffee maker and it makes about 2 medium sized coffee mugs of coffee. It keeps the coffee hot and the sneak a cup works fine for me. Never upset about how it tastes or looks...just how it pours. So have a paper towel handy.

Not super, but adequate
I've never really owned any coffeemaker before, but this one seems okay. If you just want to have a cup or two at work, this is a good deal for the $$. The filters are easy to find anywhere. It doesn't take up much space. The coffee tastes pretty good to me. Its a little cumbersome pouring the water into the reservoir because of the lip on the pot, but you don't necessarily need to use that because inside the reservoir it has lines for the number of cups that is easy to see. One thing is, if you don't use the coffee up in a certain amount of time, the element shuts off automatically and the coffee may go cold before you get to it. Other than that, I would recommend this, its a great color, makes pretty good coffee, no real problems.

Cuisinart DCC-1200FR Coffee Maker Case Pack 2

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Purifying filters are available from manufacturer for now, I've ordered a dozen just in case they decide to discontinue at some point, but the lack of a filter won't make this machine obsolete.

Buy this if you want great coffee, never worry about cleaning a carafe again as one of many bonuses.

Works great for us
We enjoy this model a lot.

No messy carafe in sight, much easier to keep clean, easy to fill a cup while brewing. For us it really is much neater. A snap to clean.

It's simple and straightforward to use, uses standard flat bottom filters. It brews fast. It really does hold 12 cups.

On a less important level, its square form and stainless finish look good in my kitchen too.

Cuisinart Coffee On Demand Coffee Maker

           Product Description

Suggested Items

Accessories

Overview

Model: COD-4000BWSA
The Cuisinart Coffee On Demand introduces coffee without the carafe! I've had built-in grind coffee machines for awhile, and I can honestly say this little machine produces some of the best tasting coffee there is! The cleanup is easier than my old GE machine (with grinder). No, it's not as easy as a normal coffee maker without the grinder, but then you don't get the freshly ground coffee either.

You're going to have to decide what is right for you. I program mine the night before and wake up to fresh coffee in the morning. The grinder is noisy, but is still quieter than my old machine. After I pour my thermos, it takes me all of three minutes to disassemble and rinse the parts out with hot water, leaving them to drip dry in the sink for when I get home. About once every couple weeks, I hand wash the parts.

I use the thing every week, 5 days a week. It's awesome. I've had no trouble with it. You just have to know that you're getting a grind-and-brew, not just some regular coffee maker. If you're looking for quality coffee, then this is your ticket.

No more coffee shops
Wake up and smell the coffee brewing and with the pause feature, I don't have to wait for that first cup. I work at home and the coffee stays fresh and hot all day. Plus, the 1-4 cup settings eliminates any waste. I found this machine easy to set up and operate and to keep clean. Thank you Cuisinart!

Cuisinart DCC-600RC 10 Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe for use with DGB-600BC coffeemaker

Customer Reviews
Great carafe that works very well

I have a grind and brew that is the black plastic model that is the version that comes with the 12 cup glass carafe. I dropped the glass carafe in the sink and it cracked, bummer. I went to get another glass carafe and saw that the stainless thermal carafe was on sale so I bought it without realizing it was not made to use with the Grind & Brew model I owned. It fit perfectly and I was curious why they said "for use with stainless steel grind & brew only" and realized it is because the stainless thermal carafe holds 10 cups, not 12 like my glass one.

SO ANYWAY, what this means is that this thermal carafe works great with ALL Grind & Brew Machines, you just can't set the plastic Grind & Brew machines to make 12 cups of coffee since the steel thermal carafe will only hold 10 cups. NOT A BIGGIE and it's a wonderful bonus; I set my machine the night before and am awoken up by it going off in the morning and now I can have hot coffee without needing to fuss with putting the coffee in a separate carafe. Plus, it keeps it hot FOREVER; I have emptied the leftover coffee after work and it is still warm over 10 hours later.

I love it and highly recommend for any Grind & Brew machine.

Fits the DCC-1100
Great carafe. I broke my brand new glass 12 cup carafe that came with the DCC-1100 and got the glass one and this one to replace it. Now when I have company I can brew 2 pots. Works great as long as you remember to only brew 10 cups. I'm fussy about wanting real hot coffee. I preheat the carafe with hot water in the sink while I fill the water reservoir with a pitcher. Keeps coffee hot for hours. Pours kinda slow, but that's because of the valve system to retain heat. I highly recommend this carafe.

Thermal Carafe replacement
Even though this pot is not supposed to 'go' with my Cuisinart 12-cup (model #DCC-1200) Coffeemaker, I purchased it anyways. I cracked the original glass pot that came with the coffeemaker, and I didn't want another glass replacement. This carafe is 2 cups smaller than my 12-cup machine, so I have to remember that when I'm making coffee for crowds! However, I took the gamble and hoped that it would fit my machine...and it fits beautifully! My only complaint is that unless I pre-warm the carafe with hot water for a few minutes before brewing the coffee, the coffee only stays warm, not hot (even right after brewing). Hence, the 4 stars...

Cuisinart 12-cup Coffee Maker - Stainless Steel with 30 Paper Filters

           Product Description

Includes 30 paper filters MODEL CBC-00PC6

Product Details

Amazon Sales Rank: #6220 in Kitchen & Housewares

Brand: Cuisinart

Features

Charcoal water filter helps produce great-tasting coffee by removing impurities

Indicator light tells you when it's time to clean your coffeemaker to remove calcium buildup

Heater plate has 3 settings, so you can decide how hot the coffee stays

12-cup carafe with ergonomic handle, drip-less spout and knuckle guard

Programmable automatic shutoff, 0-4 hours

Customer Reviews

Excellent Coffee Maker...
This unit is a step-down from the DCC1200 model. It doesn't have the self-cleaning feature and doesn't include a gold reusable filter (but it can use one if bought separately). However, its lower price makes it well worth it, as all the most important features are included such as the variable auto shut-off and drip-less carafe (the carafe really works well, it pours better than any other coffee maker I've owned). The one drawback (shared by the DCC1200 model) is that the water level in the tank can be a bit hard to see. Overall, this is an excellent coffee maker that will not disappoint whether you use it just occasionally or every day.

It Really Improves the Taste
I got the Cuisinart Stainless Steel 12 cup Coffee Maker for Christmas and was very surprised to find that it actually improved the taste of my coffee. The change in taste is subtle, but I would say it is richer and smoother. The coffee maker is very attractive to look at, well made, and offers some welcome features: for example the auto on, and especially the auto off feature, and the choice of carafe temperature. I went ahead and got the Cuisinart GTF Gold Tone Filter. A great present for yourself or someone else.

Cuisinart EM-100 1000-Watt 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless Steel

           Product Description

Imagine a cup of your favorite espresso, cappuccino or latte - hot, rich, fresh and flavorful- anytime you want it. I think it's of an exceptional quality for the price.

Positives: #1 Well built (it's actually quite heavy)
#2 easy to use, filters allow for a single or double shot to be made - also comes with a pod filter but I've never used it
#3 large water reservoir that has allowed me to make 4 or 5 espressos and steam milk too
#4 comes with a DVD that teaches you how to use it (much easier than reading the booklet) - this is especially helpeful if you're new at making your own drinks
#5 easy to clean
#6 has a warming plate on top (good if you need to make more than one double shot cups or two single shot cups
#7 espresso has a good taste (although I think this has as much to do with the quality of the coffee you're using) The machine actually does produce a good amount of crema for the price you pay
#8 Stainless steel frothing picture is just the right size for one latte or two cappucinos
#9 15 bar pump allows for more than enough pressure and for great taste.
#10 has a feature that allows you to get plain old hot water too if someone isn't interested in the espresso and wants tea/cocoa/whatever

Negatives: #1 the steam nozzle is too long - you kind of have to tilt the pitcher to get the nozzle out - this isn't a problem so long as you know so you can use less milk or you can place the machine so the nozzle can be used on a non-countered space. The nozzle has a good range of movement so this does help counteract.
#2 the distance between the portafilter (where the coffee comes out) and the drip tray is not very tall - I've found that I have to use a smaller cup to brew and then dump it into a larger cup if I'm going to make a latte and want to fit in a decent amount of frothed milk.
#3 you have to be really careful to not overtamp your grounds or you'll end out with coffee everywhere - this machine is a little pickier than I expected (and pickier than the really cheap machine this replaced). But, with that said, the taste is 100x better. You can catch it if you overtamp too so long as you closely monitor and make sure the water is coming out of the portafilter at a decent rate. If you overtamp, barely anything drips out. After a while you figure out how much is too much.
#4 - my biggest complaint, and this one is quite dangerous - There's not a great way of knowing that pressure has been released - this means that once your espresso is made and you're ready to clean out the coffee grounds you have to be really really careful or it'll explode the hot coffee grinds all over you and your kitchen. I've been seriously burned a couple of times. It might not be a problem if you're used to espresso machines (I wasn't when I first bought this one) or you learn to be super extra careful always.

Easy, Yummy, Great Design
We had a Krups combo coffee pot/espresso machine and after several espresso calamities in a row, I gave up and got this Cuisinart. So far it has been great! It seems that there used to be only basic espresso makers or extremely expensive ones on the market, with nothing in between. But the Cuisinart satisfies the coffee connoisseur on a budget by making truly wonderful espresso and more.

One of my frustrations with our last model was the "perfect froth" tip, which was disastrous to say the least. I just need a basic steam wand and I can take it from there, and the Cuisinart fits the bill - it steamed and frothed my milk easily and quickly. Just be careful to use less milk than you might think, because the volume doubles in no time. I'll probably switch to a larger pitcher than the one that comes with the Cuisinart, though it's fine to start out.

A couple tips to get started: the instructions say the heating light should come on right away, but it didn't for me until I switched the small knob to the droplet icon (as opposed to the middle neutral position). I figured this out by watching the video, which I recommend as the instruction manual is pretty bare. It's also good to see how much pressure one should use to tamp the grounds.

The only negative thing I can say is that the warming tray doesn't seem to get very warm, but I do like being able to store my cups on top anyway (more space in the cabinets now, plus a certain café aesthetic is always nice), so I don't mind. Positives are that it's fast, it's quiet, everything is sturdy and well designed (and clicks or locks solidly in place so you know things are seated correctly), and the espresso is truly café quality - an enormous difference from the more basic espresso machines on the market.

UPDATE: Since this review I have had some experiences with clogging. Cuisinart customer service was totally unhelpful, but here's what I do to remedy the situation:

1. As soon as you notice espresso isn't coming out, turn off the machine, take off the basket (you may have to wait for the pressure to subside), rinse it out well, and fill the machine with water.

2. Scrub the underside of the metal grid that the filter basket attaches to with a damp cloth.

3. Reattach just the basket with no filter. Heat water and run that through to get any clogs in the upper part of the machine. I fill up a milk pitcher. Then turn the big black dial to neutral, add the empty filter to the basket, and repeat. As long as water starts running through that ok it should be all right. I hope it works for you!

Great Coffee, but Have a Backup Plan Too!
I like my coffee. In fact, I freely admit to being a coffee addict. And before I say anything else, let me say that this machine makes great coffee. With the right beans and a bit of practice, you can beat the taste of any coffee shop with this.

That said, I am glad, I still have my french press, because sometimes this machine decides to be difficult. It usually starts if you tamp your coffee too hard. The coffee maker is then unable to pass water through and ceases up completely. Make sure you watch what you are doing, so you can stop it from trying if necessary. Now, the real problem with this is, that you will have a very hard time removing the basket, as long as there is still pressure inside. It takes somewhere between 5-10 minutes at least, before the pressure has gone down enough, that you can pry the basket off (watch for exploding coffeegrounds, if you didn't wait long enough).

To make matters worse, the machine seems to have a hard time recovering after an incident such as this. It seems to get even pickier, with what it will accept, and it will be easier to resort to the backup plan, and let the espresso machine recover.

I would rate the EM-100 a 5/5, if it weren't for this problem. I hardly apply any strength, when I tamp my coffee, and I still run into trouble from time to time. In fact, the first one I had got so picky, that I took it back to the store and exchanged it.

To minimize my risk, I take great care to clean every bit of the coffee maker after each use. If you can live with this issue, the coffee that comes out of this machine really is to die for.

Cuisinart DCC-2600 Brew Central 14-Cup Coffeemaker

           Product Description

Brew Central Coffeemaker provides Coffee lovers will all their favorite features in this extra-large capacity coffeemaker. It brews quietly. Two of the nicer features are a clear water level meter on the side of the machine, carafe temp control and a "regular" or "bold" coffee taste selection. The cons: It brews so slowly...I was shocked by this. Also, and this is the killer for me, the coffee just is not hot enough. When I brought the machine home last night, I brewed a couple of full pots and the temperature was about 180 degrees. This morning, I brewed my normal morning pot (6 cups) -- it took nearly 10 minutes to accomplish this and the coffee really wasn't hot. I am seriously considering going back to my little percolator.

Best Cuisinart coffee maker ever.
This is a replacement for my old Cuisinart coffee maker which I had for about six years or so (the predecessor to this model). I loved my old one even with some of the little quirks it had. It beat out any Braun or Krupp pot which I had ever owned. This new updated model is a winner. All of the small annoyances have been solved, such as the small fill tank opening, the dripping cover that leaked back into the fill tank, and finally, thank you Cuisinart people, a water level guide on the outside of the unit. The front knobs on the front are now also easier to see and use. As my other Cuisinart did, it brews superior coffee and quickly. I find it takes about one minute per cup... 12 minutes for twelve cups, not bad at all. Yes, the unit does make some clicking and popping noises when it is new, so did my old one. But that goes away in time as the unit gets "broken in". I do not think you can find a better coffee maker on the market.

Love This Coffee Maker
We take coffee very seriously in my house and when our old Cuisinart broke I wasn't sure I wanted another. But they fixed the design problems (hard to pour the water without spilling, no visible water gauge) and it makes great coffee. Highly recommend it.

Cuisinart DGB-625BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal

           Product Description

The easiest way to great coffee is the Cuisinart Grid and Brew. It does a great job automatically grinding and brewing coffee. Cuisinart quality is evident throughout. The only problem? The grinding chamber gets moist from steam during the brewing process, and must be cleaned out and dried thoroughly after every use.

When I ground my own beans, I used a small electric Braun grinder. It was great... I just threw the beans in, ground them up, and dumped them in the basket. No need to fuss and clean the grinder daily, or even weekly. With this product, the grinder needs to be cleaned after each use, so that adds one more item to the daily chore of keeping the coffeemaker clean and operating in top condition.

Failure to clean and dry the grinder leads quickly to grinding failures (due to stickiness of the ground coffee not dropping into the brew chamber) or mold growth (hot steamy chamber is perfect for mold!).

If you don't mind this bit of added work, you can automatically have your beans ground for you and your coffee made each morning using the built in Program timer mode.

All around, a good product.

Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew Thermal 10-Cup Coffee Maker

Product Description

The built-in blade grinder automatically grinds whole beans just before brewing to deliver rich, robust flavor and fragrant aroma. Model DCC-1400.

Customer Reviews

Excellent quality, great coffee!
We searched and searched for a thermal carafe coffeemaker. This one was a decent price, with a lot of features, include brew/pause, automatic shutoff, a double-walled stainless thermal carafe, and a built-in water filter. The first few pots didn't taste great, even though I ran hot water through it a couple of times before brewing that first pot. The Cuisinart makes GREAT coffee, good and hot. The carafe keeps it hot for a long time. It's a great buy for the money. I made a pot at 7:00 this morning and the coffee is still warm. We're very pleased. It also has a three year warranty. You can't beat it for the price.

Perfect For My Needs
The main reasons I was interested in this coffee maker were for the thermal properties of the carafe and the quality of coffee the machine makes. I wasn't interested in whether or not I could see the water in the reservoir or see how much coffee was left in the pot. I wanted a machine that would allow me to stop making multiple pots of coffee throughout the morning. Most of the time, I would make myself coffee early in the morning, then, make my wife a pot around 10 or 11. Our old coffee maker would burn coffee after about 45 minutes. With the Cuisinart, all I have to do is put hot water in the carafe prior to brewing, pour it out, and brew my coffee as usual. After the coffee is made, I put the stylish carafe on our coffee table or living room table, and we have coffee for the whole morning. I don't have to worry about the pot burning any of our table/counter surfaces because it's double insulated. That's the beauty of this carafe--its basically a large, stylish thermos.

All of the other minor issues I can deal with. Guess what? You can pour water into the chamber with something other than the coffee pot. You know how many cups of coffee you can pour before the pot is empty? The exact number you poured from your old coffee pot. If you had a 12-cup maker prior to this one, subtract 1 large coffee mug from that number. I'm not real sure what people are expecting from this machine. It makes above-average coffee and keeps it hot without burning or scalding.

Great coffee maker
I did a lot of research before buying this coffee maker from Amazon.

Some close contenders were the grind and brew and the higher dollar capresso's.

I was really liked the idea of a grind and brew, yet across the board , from one maker to another, people reported problems with the process, whether it be moisture build up in the grinding area, too much coffee being left in the grinding process, problems maintaining brew strength, problems 'switching' coffee flavors, and time consuming cleaning processes.

I thought I would invest and buy a higher dollar capresso without the grinder, but was really suprised and disappointed that multiple reviews stated they had problems with a ball float in the pot lid resulting in waking up to find coffee - all over the counter. In my humble opinion, waking up up to the best coffee in the world the rest of the year is not worth cleaning up that mess once in a while.

The thermal carafe on the cuisinart is great. I understood before buying it that getting the last drop of coffee out of a thermal carafe lid or in fact using it to fill the water reserv. were problematic across most makers. I keep a 44oz plastic rest cup by my coffee supplies to fill the water and it is handy as I get the water from the filtered fridge and filling into the cup is actually more efficient than filling even into my old glass coffee carafe as they are all kind of bulky.

The carafe keeps the coffee hot for about three hours.

I am very happy with this product and gave it 5 stars.

Cuisinart Grind & Brew, 10-Cup Coffee Maker, LCD Display, Glass Carafe and Brew Pause

           Product Description

The Cuisinart® Grind & Brew coffeemaker grinds your favorite coffee beans just before brewing... automatically! The coffee really tastes great. The only problem that I have is that the unit must be cleaned after each use. Sure, it is easy to clean, but it does take more time than non-grind type units. Condensation forms in the grinding area, and the coffee grounds stick. Grounds also stick to the area where the coffee is blown into the filter.
Bottom line, the coffee is good. Just know that you have some cleaning to do. I think it is a flaw in the design. There is no where for the condensation to go from the heated water,so it forms in the grind area.

Well Designed For What You Pay!
I picked up this Cuisinart DCC-690 simply knowing that it wouldn't suck. For the (less-than) $100 I paid for it, I am quite happy with its performance. It is reliable thus far, the brew is decent, and my favorite thing is that the brewing/grinder assembly is fully washable.

A lot of folks don't know that coffee makers and mills NEED to be cleaned regularly for the purest flavor. I learned that from a friend that worked for a corporate coffee chain that begins with "S".

I appreciate that I can cleanse not only my coffee carafe and filter basket, as well as my grinder in the sink or dishwasher! You know that grimy grunge that forms in your coffee filter basket- even though you rinse it daily? Not tasty in my coffee! A bit disappointing is that one still has to wipe out the inside of the grinder/filter area once parts are removed. Not a big deal, but yeah, an extra step I could do without.

A grind and brew with a (vacuum) carafe, that would be a step up (to keep the coffee hot for longer periods). I don't like 'overcooked' coffee that's been on a burner for more than a few minutes. So, if you have a crowd or just one person, this unit works just fine.

Cuisinart 4-Cup 12-Volt Coffee Maker

           Product Description

Enjoy your home brewed coffee anywhere you go. Freshly ground coffee: The coffeemaker lets you grind your favorite coffee beans and then automatically puts the grounds into the filter to brew. Fully programmable with an easy to read LCD display for auto-on function and variable heater plate setting. Great Taste: The coffee bar flavor system is the same special brewing system found in commercial coffeemakers. Simply set the number of cups being brewed, for coffee bar flavor at home. Long lasting taste: The Taste KeeperTM lid is designed to minimize oxygen flow into the carafe so coffee stays fresher, longer. Express Coffee: The brew pause feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before brewing has finished. Consistent Flavor: The 1-4 cup setting allows you to make only a cup or two without altering the flavor of the brew. Variable automatic shutoff, self clean setting with time to clean monitor, grind off function, 1-4 cup setting, large LCD clock, cord storage, and 3-year limited warranty.

Amazon.com Review
For coffee that's as fresh as the neighborhood coffee shop, but served at home, try Cuisinart's Automatic Grind and Brew coffeemaker. It makes it easy to enjoy fresh coffee with the utmost convenience--ground whole-bean coffee pours directly into the filter basket at a pre-set time for instant brewing. The maker does all the thinking, with a range of programmable features: set the machine to grind and brew at exactly the right time, predetermine the coffee's temperature, and program the machine to turn off a half-hour later.

Other features take the guess work out of coffeemaking as well: the flavor setting ensures the optimal amount of water is used for a rich, aromatic taste and no acidity or bitterness, and the large easy-view water window makes sure the right amount of water is added. A self-clean feature lets you know when calcium buildup is interfering with the machine's operation; turn on the self-clean cycle to make quick work of grime. Daily cleaning of the machine is somewhat involved since all individual parts must be removed, so prepare for slightly longer clean up in exchange for time-saving upfront.

Two additional caveats: The grinder is noisy, as most grinders are, and cannot be turned off midgrind. And the coffee bar is taller than average coffee machines, so make sure you have a spot for it with plenty of below cupboard space. --Emily Wolf

Customer Reviews

Pricey, but good coffeemaker
Frankly, I'm a little surprised at the wide range of reviews here for this coffeemaker.

Yes, the coffeemaker does have to be cleaned after every brewing. No, it doesn't make bad coffee. No, you can't just dump coffee beans or ground coffee into the coffeemaker and make good coffee automatically.

The Coffee Bar, as Cuisinart likes to call it, does have several internal parts which must all be in place before you can brew coffee. You can use ground coffee, but you're defeating the purpose of the Coffee Bar by doing so. The grinder compartment can hold enough beans to make 10 strong 6-oz cups of coffee which is what "10-cup" usually means with appliances. I like my coffee very strong and I've been able to load more than enough beans into the coffeemaker to get the strength of coffee I want.

Between the grinder and the attached drain basket is an attached screen through which the ground beans goes through and an inserted gold basket filter which must be in place in order to make coffee. On top of all of this is a cover which fits over the basket into which hot water is pumped up over the grounds and then drips down into your fresh grounds.

On this cover, there is a dial setting which you must set each and ever time depending on the amount (and what I've discovered -- strength) of the coffee you want to have. Finally, this entire assembly is covered by a lid attached to the rear of the coffeemaker and latches in front.

The entire internal assembly MUST be cleaned after each and every brewing. So, yes, if you make multiple pots, you need to clean it each time. (However, is this any different than any other coffee appliance?)

There are additional settings on the front of the coffeemaker that also affect the quality of the coffee; so, basically, the coffeemaker is NOT intuitive and you have to read the instruction manual before you start brewing coffee with this appliance.

All of that said, this coffeemaker makes EXCELLENT coffee. I own two of them, because I originally purchased the version in white, because it was all that was available. When the version in black became available, I bought a second one. Both are still in excellent working condition and I haven't had any problem with either.

The Cuisinart Coffee Bar is a little pricey, but it does make great coffee and I heartily recommend it.

Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White

           Product Description

Cuisinart's Coffee Bar brewing system was modeled after commercial systems, and delivers pure coffee flavor, cup after cup. The 1-4 cup setting ensures you can make a cup or two without altering the temperature or flavor of the coffee. And if you're in a big hurry, rest assured you can grab a cup thanks to the pause and serve function.

Amazon.com Review
This Cuisinart coffeemaker is ideal for the coffee drinker who wants the flavor of café coffee at home. It all starts with the specialized Coffee Bar flavor system, which revolves around a dial on the top of the machine that allows you to set the number of cups to brew. The coffeemaker automatically regulates the right amount of water through the grounds. Just like that--a better cup of java.

The rest of the machine is also topnotch, and is focused on providing better coffee in a user-friendly format. The features include a sturdy 10-cup carafe (with a specialized lid to keep oxygen out during brewing, thus preserving the flavor), a pause feature--which makes it possible to remove the carafe midbrew to pour a cup--a water window that shows how much water needs to be poured in for different amounts of coffee, and an easy-to-read instruction manual to get everything started. The bottom line: all these features add up to good coffee. This coffeemaker measures 13-1/4 by 9-3/4 by 8 inches (height by width by depth). --A.J. Rathbun

Customer Reviews

For 4 Years, A Reliable Morning Friend
I have owned this little gem for four years. I used to have a Mr. Coffee 8-cup machine, but it started acting funny after a few years so I decided to upgrade to a bigger machine. I saw this at a really great price and picked it up and have not been happier.

It uses a size four cone filter, just like some of the more fancy $100 models. Sorry, but you can't refit this one to take a goldtone filter to my knowledge. It has settings for how hot the water gets (cup selector switch on front) and the water flow (knob underneath the reservoir lid). Yes, the carafe is a little awkward in design and makes pouring those last two cups a challenge of dexterity, but I have to attest to the fact that I've had my machine for four years and it has been a consistent performer. It usually takes about 10 minutes to make 6 cups of coffee.

My only complaint is that there is no timer feature and no ability to place a goldtone filter, but for the price I can't expect much more than what I got. Plus, if you don't moisten the paper filter so it sticks to the side of the basket, it may fold over and turn into a coffee burito.

For a basic coffee maker that won't let you down, look no further.

Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10 cup Coffeemaker
This is the second time I have purchased this model coffeemaker. Over the years I've owned Bunn, Krups and Cuisinart. By far, the most consistantly good coffee comes from this little Cuisinart. I agree that you have to get the knack for pouring, or the coffee drips & if you do not carefully line up the swing out fliter you will get spillover. However, after the first few tries I did not have any problems at all. I was so happy with the years of service with my first one I went right out and bought it again.

Cuisinart DTC-975N Programmable Automatic Brew-and-Serve 12-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker, White

           Product Description

Now you can enjoyed piping hot, full-flavored coffee in style. I have used many different machines over 15 years of drinking coffee (and therefore making coffee) daily and have absolutely no complaints about this machine. I would like to address the complaints here for people shopping for a coffeemaker.

RE: The reported leakage problem. This is due to OVERFILLING. The water reservoir is larger than the carafe for a reason people: Steam builds up as water is heated, if the reservoir were the exact size of the carafe... YOU finish this sentence. If you can- a) figure out in your head what happens to heated plastic without room built in to displace heat and b) either fill the machine with the actual carafe being used or something you measured out beforehand that is equal to the volume of said carafe- than you're smart enough to own this excellent machine.

RE: The BEEP. Yes it beeps (3 times) and yes it's not a whisper, but it's not the trumpet people are making it out to be. These people must have it set up in their bedrooms two feet from their head. If the machine is in your kitchen and you are nearby it's not loud enough to wake you, it's just loud enough to hear if you're in the other room and can't WAIT to get that first cup of java. It's morning and it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." It's evening and I'm chatting with friends and forget and then it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." People who complain about the beep would complain about getting wet in the rain or cold in the winter.

RE: The screw cap. Yes it takes 3 revolutions to get this SCREW cap SCREWED on. And like any nut and bolt system you have to start screwing evenly in order to form a tight bond. This tight bond is what keeps your coffee hot. The carafe pours using a built-in ball-bearing that uses that wonderful thing we like to call gravity to move the ball ever so slightly away from the opening so that your HOT coffee can pour into your waiting favorite coffee cup. The stream is thin yes, again for a reason: large openings equal larger exposure to air, air that is most probably colder than you like your coffee.

I've tried many others and this is my favorite. This is the coffeemaker I would give as a gift to someone who really loves their coffee.

Now I will retire to my DTC-975BK and celebrate its excellence with an afternoon cup of French Roast.

Coolest coffee maker on the planet
For about a year, I had been stopping by the coffee pot section of the stores staring at the few pathetic choices, and thankfully resisted the urge to buy the mostly stainless steel Cuisinart number that my daughter has.

Just last week my girlfriend had been telling me how much she loved her thermal one, and it really got me thinking how awesome it would be if the coffee stayed hot, and didn't turn funky like it always does on a burner. A day later, I was staring at this one in the store and fell in love with it.

First of all, it was the 12 cup factor - I had only seen 10 cup thermals before and I couldn't see the point - when I entertain, I need to have more than 10 lousy cups. It also looks super in my white/bisque kitchen, and the brushed stainless steel pot is very nice looking and heavy duty.

I was forever standing in front of the micro reheating a cup of coffee or tea. Today was a very extreme example: I made a pot of coffee at 9:30 am before heading to church - and at 4:30 IN THE AFTERNOON, poured a cup and it was TOO HOT TO DRINK! Mind-blowing! And it tasted exactly like the first cup did in the morning.

The whole fam likes to also likes to drink a lot of tea, especially in the evening, and it dawned on me that I could run the water through it without coffee, and wala.... hot water for tea anytime someone wants a cup... no more standing in front of the micro for 2 minutes.

I can't tell you how awesome this coffee maker is... and having never had one I can set up the night before is truly wonderful. I love the fact that I don't have to open the top to pour. I will never own a coffeemaker with a hot plate again.

Love it.!! Some issues are real but easily overcome
I LOVE this coffee maker. It is true that the coffee is hot and fresh for hours. It's super easy to clean. Definitely one of the best purchases I made. I would highly recommend this machine for most people. Some of the issues mentioned do have some truth...but are unavoidable given the merits of the machine...

For example, the lid does need to be put on correctly and is a little tight (but this required if the coffee is to stay hot for hours). Every once in a while I misalign it, but I think it's obvious when this starts to happen. I could see that someone with arthritis would have a problem. This machine may not be for the very old, or those with people in the house who wouldn't make the effot to do it right (like some teenagers?).

Same thing with putting the brew basket in. It does have to sit fully down and can easily be put in crooked. But after you've used it a few times it's obvious when it's in properly or not. When properly placed you can remove the pot during brew without spilling a drop. Again, this machine may not be best for older people who really can't see very well (my grandmother would have a real hard time) and for those who don't bother to check these little things.

I did have a problem once with the autostopper not working well and dripping when I remove the pot during brew, now I always fill the basket with water and push the button to let water come through when I wash it. Works like a champ again.

Bottom line, for most people this coffee pot is fabulous. I may not be best for older people because it does have a few quirks.

Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-cup Programmable Coffeemaker

           Product Description

Cuisinart introduces coffee without the carafe! The Coffee on demand coffeemaker has a simple "press to serve" lever that delivers up to 12 cups of hot coffee, cup by cup, from a double wall reservoir. Our exclusive Coffee gauge on the front of the unit counts down the cups remaining. With 24-hour programmability, auto shutoff, professional brushed stainless steel housing, and clean, contemporary styling, this is one of the easiest-and almost elegant- coffeemakers on the market.

Customer Reviews

Didn't need, but had to have! Love it!
I have a perfectly good Cuisinart DCC-1200, but after spotting the 2000 at a local store I couldn't stop fiddling with the floor model. Well, my wife was lurking as I was fiddling and with my birthday coming up - and my affinity for coffee - she thought she'd found the perfect gift. Boy was she was right!

Now let's be honest, carafe-less designs have been around forever - Farberware's stainless steel coffee pots are staples in offices and at parties - they just haven't been this much fun. I'm not going to repeat everything that's already been written, but suffice to say the 2000 is a unique coffee maker. Does it make coffee better than my 1200 did? No, not really. But it does keep it hot longer, without the bitter, burnt taste that would often accompany the coffee from my 1200 when left on the warming plate for over 30 minutes. I normally have two cups every morning (not the puny 5-ounce "cups" that every coffee maker seems to think is the norm for whatever reason), but I've found myself having about three (maybe not a good thing?) since getting the 2000 because that third cup, about 1-1/2 hours later still tastes great. That wasn't happening with the 1200. Sometimes I'd try the third cup, but the burnt carafe taste made it unfortunate.

One of the complaints I'm reading here is that you need a separate container to fill the 2000. I can't be the only owner that owns a Pyrex 2-cup (or more) measuring cup can I? I just fill it up once, twice - gasp! - three times and pour it in while watching the water level on the side. Honestly, it's not that hard. Cleaning is no different from any model with a carafe. But instead of washing the outer carafe you remove the inner "carafe" to rinse it out or give it a thorough cleaning. That's the only difference. The coffee gauge is kind of silly and inaccurate and I rarely ever look at it, but it adds to the allure of the 2000.

I'll be keeping my 1200 at the ready for my sister to use when she comes over to make her dreadful flavored coffees so they don't contaminate my new toy. But until the next great design advance comes along to which I can't say "no," I'll be enjoying the 2000 to the fullest. It's neat, it's fun and it makes great coffee.

Cuisinart carafe-less coffee maker
We just purchased this coffee maker. Very unique design in that it uses no carafe but a tank inside the coffee maker to store the brewed coffee. You then press a lever to dispense the coffee. My wife has a habit of breaking the glass carafes and so this should avoid this problem in the future. The plastic tank holds the brew basket as well as the coffee and both are removable for cleaning. Full featured with LCD clock, auto start, and adjustable warming time. The most expensive coffee maker we have ever bought but it is well built and most importantly it makes great coffee.

Great machine.....please read
This is really a great coffee maker. The negative reviews all seem to be fixated on the fact that you have to pour water into the reservoir, and the unit doesn't come with a container for this purpose!! Is Cuisinart the Devil? Should I call my lawyer and file a class action suit? What is wrong with people today? Is is really that difficult to procure a plastic pitcher of some sort, fill it with water and then transfer that water into the coffee maker? I think not, and I do it one or two time a day myself without covering my kitchen counters with water. If you are not able to pour water from a pitcher into the reservoir of a coffee machine, I really do not think that you should be trusted with a hot cup of coffee either.
The coffee tastes great, never burnt. It is easy to program and clean and does not take up a whole lot of room. It also comes with one of those re-usable, permanent gold filters which many companies sell separately for about $20. My girlfriend can operate this thing easily, and she has a hard time figuring out the remote control for the TV. If she can program this unit, so can you. As to the other negative comments I have read which describe a powerless, malfunctioning unit, I have had no problems whatsoever with mine. Hope this review was useful, thanks for reading it.

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal

           Product Description

The easiest way to great coffee is the Cuisinart Grid and Brew. This 10 cup coffeemaker automatically grinds the beans right before brewing to deliver the freshest coffee flavor and the thermal stainless steel carafe keeps it hot and fresh for hours at a time. Because it's fully programmable with a large control panel, it's easier than ever to enjoy a hot cup of coffee any time of day. Quick, easy delicious - great coffee is automatic with the Cuisinart Grind and Brew.

Amazon.com Product Description
A perfect addition to any modern kitchen, this 10-cup automatic coffeemaker grinds whole beans right before brewing to produce a fresh and flavorful pot of coffee. The 24-hour fully programmable unit works great for "wake-up" coffee or having coffee ready when it's time to serve dessert--without getting up from the table. In addition, its brew-pause function makes it simple to sneak a cup before the end of the brewing cycle. Smaller amounts can be brewed without any loss of flavor thanks to the units 1- to 4-cup setting, and its grind-off feature allows for using pre-ground coffee. For added convenience, the coffeemaker provides a large control panel, automatic shut-off for peace of mind, and a 10-cup (5 ounces each) thermal stainless-steel carafe with a generous stay-cool handle and drip-free pouring spout. Accessories include a gold-tone commercial-style permanent filter and a charcoal water filter for removing impurities. The sleek-looking coffeemaker measures 12 by 9-1/2 by 17-1/2 inches and carries a three-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews

New & Improved
I love the new look! We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation). I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days! I love it. If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice. Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!

Works Great!

Let me start by admitting that I am a novice when it comes to drinking coffee, much less owning coffee machines. This is the first coffee machine I've ever bought, but I've been very happy with it thus far. If you purchase it, definitely read the directions - as there are a couple of small points they bring out, that you wouldn't otherwise know. (For instance, when you place the goldtone coffee filter in, the handle which can rest in either direction, must face outwards.) I just mention this, since I am usually one to NOT read directions, and I'm sure most others who have owned coffe machines wouldn't either, but it seems valuable in this particular case.

The main reason I went with this unit, was Cuisineart had the only ones in Bed Bath & Beyond which can be programmed to grind then brew. I leave it on my desk at work, and have it programmed to grind/brew right before I arrive in the morning. And it's awesome. Only used it several times so far, but no complaints. Cleaning is relatively easy - but (like any other coffee brewer/grinder I assume) you have to clean it every day. Not a big deal though, so far I've just been taking the grinder and filter parts out, and rinsing them out. Not sure how important it is to use soap...

The most valuable thing I can tell you, that you won't read on the box, is that the thermal caraffe REALLY DOES work great. I don't pre-heat the caraffe, since I have it sitting out from the night before. I have mine programmed to start brewing at 8:30am. And believe it or not, despite the fact that there is no heater that runs after it's done brewing... the coffee stays HOT for a long time. It stays piping hot for several hours, and even at 2:30pm, it is still drinkably warm. I never expected it to stay that warm for 6 hours, far exceeded my expecations.

Easy to program, but you have to remember to press the Program button each night before. Although, that's not really a big deal since you have to add water and all the other stuff anyway. It's a safety feature really.

Grinder noise isn't super loud, and it only runs for 60 seconds so who cares. Mine is sitting on my desk in my cube, but I program it to run before most people arrive in the office so it's not a problem.

Very short 2ft. power cord with the unit, which will be great for kitchen countertops where you can put it by an outlet, otherwise you might need an extension cord.

Can't speak about reliability. Hopefully they fixed some of the issues people had with this unit's predecessor. Will revise my review later if I have issues.

I've rated it 5 stars, for $129 I feel that I got what I expected and paid for, and really don't have any complaints. I also haven't seen ANYTHING in the market that does what this does, in the same price range. Is there not a demand for coffee grinder/brewers? I mean, why wouldn't you want to have something that you can program to do both before you even wake up? For me, there was no other choice.

Cuisinart has a more expensive model than this one, but it was $70 more and the only feature that really seemed to be valuable was it's "burr grinder" which is supposedly better. But it didn't seem like that was worth $70 more to me, so I thought this was the best value.

Great Improvement!
We had an older version of the Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew that died (it was the 600BC) and this one has been redesigned and is even better! The coffee stays hot for much longer. This new version it doesn't drop grinds out of the maker like our old one. We really like the thermal carafe because it doesn't continue to "cook" the coffee on a hot plate. It makes a great cup of java!

Cuisinart DCC-755BK FlavorBrew Coffeemaker with 10-Cup Thermal Carafe, Black

           Product Description

FlavorBrew 10-cup Thermal Coffeemaker is designed to preserve counter space as well as the fresh flavor of your coffee. This sleek, 10 cup thermal programmable coffeemaker enhances any countertop in both form and function. With a thermal carafe that keeps coffee hot and fresh for hours and great features like 24-hour programmability, a 1 - 4 cup setting, and the always convenient Brew Pause feature, it's easier than ever to brew, pour and enjoy a great cup of coffee at home.

Amazon.com Product Description
Brew up to 10 cups of flavorful coffee with this sleek-looking countertop appliance. Its 10-cup (5 ounces each) double-wall insulated thermal carafe keeps the last cup as hot and fresh-tasting as the first for hours, plus it provides a generous stay-cool handle and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. The coffeemaker measures 10-1/2 by 6-2/3 by 12-1/2 inches and carries a three-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews

GREAT COOFFE MAKER
I normally buy only items that have many reviews and 4 or 5 stars. This coffee maker had only two reviews but I decided to take a chance especially since it could be returned within 30 days. Even though most thermal coffee makers had many good reviews, there were too many negatives for each. I am very happy with this on so far. I have not had any of the problems as with other types -- coffee is hot, stays hot for quite some time, doesn't leak, easy pouring and cleaning, the coffee is good with not plastice taste, carafe fits properly. It does beep when the coffee is done brewing. Compact size is nice. I have not used the timer and probably never will. The best part is that there is a 3 year warranty -- I hope it lasts that long!

This Cuisinart coffeemaker has it all!
Compact size (small footprint) yet brews a BIG pot of coffee! The Cuisinart Compact Coffeemaker has it all: programmable, water filter, gold "rinse and re-use" coffee filter, easy to use. Now have coffee READY when you wake up - or brew it and let it stay HOT in the THERMAL carafe. Coffee does not sit there, and burn, on a heating element! agf! Highly recommended.

Great White Coffee Maker!
I received this Coffee Maker last Friday. First of all, as another reviewer mentioned, I love the clean white/stainless steel look, and the small footprint. I have a very small kitchen and it fits easily on the counter. Second, it comes with its own charcoal filter to filter the water with, but since I use Britta water in my coffee maker, I did not install the charcoal filter that came with the coffee maker. And last, but not least, it makes great coffee. I pre-heat the stainless steel carafe with hot water while I am measuring the coffee and adding the water (remember to empty the carafe before putting into the coffee maker though).

Yes, the carafe does pour slowly because it is trying to keep the heat in, but not so slowly that I find it annoying. Since my second cup is my last cup, I just take the lid off. As far as it beeping too loudly, it doesn't bother me. That way if I am in the bedroom I can hear the coffee is done. The beeping is not nearly as annoying as my clothes dryer beeping 16 times!

For the price, and the fact that it has a 3 year warranty, looks great, is a Cuisinart, makes great coffee quickly, and is small for a 10 cupper, I give this 5 stars.

Cuisinart DCC-1200W Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker, White and Stainless Steel

           Product Description

The Cuisinart automatic 12-cup coffee maker uses the same brewing system found in commercial coffeemakers so you can be assured of getting a truly satisfying cup of coffee. This coffeemaker even includes a charcoal water filter, which ensures great tasting coffee by removing impurities in the water. State-of-the-art features include a programmable digital clock with 24 hour advanced brew setting, automatic shutoff, self-cleaning function, and an audible beep that signals the end of the brew cycle, which makes brewing the best tasting coffee easy. I've had the brew central for a couple of weeks now and it makes the best pot of coffee I have ever tasted. Very hot, and the little shower head over the grinds does seem to make for a stronger brew.
It's bulky, certainly, but is an excellent machine. The white/steel finish is much brighter than the trendy, mod, black-on-steel favored in last year's kitchens.

Excellent Coffee, Minor Quirks
We have this coffee maker at work, so I had the opportunity to use it for six months before buying one for home. It does make excellent coffee. I've usually bought my coffee at a shop because I could not stand the "Folgers" taste of most coffee made at home. With the water filter and a decent brand of coffee, making my own at home will pay for this machine in no time.

The styling is nice and sturdily built. The temp is hot. I **love** that the carafe doesn't drip all over the place when pouring coffee. The beeper is not that loud (and that's coming from a person that always has her computer muted because she cannot stand the constant dinging noises). As another reviewer said, if you can shop online or program your Tivo, you can program this machine. So the dials are a bit small--program it once and it's all downhill from there.

A few quirks:

-The stainless steel is very difficult to keep clean. Looks nice out of the box, but I'd give anything to have a solid white unit.
-Yes, the opening for the water reservoir is a bit small, and would be more convenient if located in the front instead of the back. A few days of practice solves this issue. I've always measured my water in the carafe, and since the lid doesn't leak, filling the reservoir is no big deal.
-It's a bit tricky learning how to get the carafe lid off--and the instruction manual does not discuss it. Once you figure it out (pull up at the handle), it's easy.
-Placement in your home can also be tricky since the cord is fairly short and the lid hits the underside of the cupboards when opened.

Despite the quirks, I love this machine and would recommend it to others. The fingerprint-loving stainless steel is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Finally a dripless carafe
I have used Krups, Braun, Mr. Coffee and others, but I am impressed with this coffee maker. It does not have a door to swing open, the carafe is absolutely dripless!, the controls are above the carafe and out of the way if coffee is spilled, it is easy to program, and best of all it makes a great cup of coffee. Thanks.

Cuisinart Coffee Maker On Demand - DCC-2000FR

           Product Description

Cuisinart DCC-2000FR Coffee On Demand Coffee Maker. Worked great until recently when it just stopped working. Unsure I will buy another.

Replace every 18 months
I bought my first DCC-2000 in October 2006. It slowly faded out, with the controls shutting off unpredictably, until one day, it was just dead. I plugged it in and it wouldn't show the clock, nor would it turn on to brew the coffee. I contacted Cuisinart, who replaced it for a $10.00 shipping fee. I assume the replacement was refurbished. It began doing the same thing at about 9 months to a year. I coaxed about 5-6 more months out of it, but now it is sitting on my counter top DEAD. I will contact Cuisinart again, to see if they will replace again. However, I am not thrilled with having to replace this. A coffee pot that costs as much as this one does should last 5-10 years, not 18 months. When it works, it makes EXCELLENT coffee, and I love the feature of pushing the handle and getting hot, perfect, delicious coffee. It even has a gauge (my hubby enjoys that).

Cuisinart DCC-2200 Brew Central 14-Cup Coffeemaker

           Product Description

Cuisinart blends innovative styling with expert coffee-making technology to offer consumers the ultimate coffee experience. With the machine's brew-pause function, which allows for pouring a cup midbrew, there's no need to wait until the coffee is completely finished brewing before enjoying a cup. Other handy extras include a simple "on/off" button, easy-to-use push-button controls, a time-of-day clock, a generous carafe handle, and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. I have been using this pot for a couple of months now, and I am more than pleased with my purchase. This pot does hold more than the standard 10- or 12-cup coffeemaker, a great feature in a family of coffee-drinkers.

I had hoped to find a coffee-maker with a removable water reservoir to carry back and forth to the sink, which this model does not have, but even so, I give this model five stars for the excellent coffee it makes. While I have to lift the coffee-maker down from the shelf on which I keep it in order to fill the reservoir, its internal clock remains accurate even when unplugged for the short while it takes to fill the reservoir.

Some folks here have complained about the beep signaling that the element is being turned off. Even after several cups of coffee, my nerves aren't so high-strung that I even give the sound a second thought. It's quite innocuous, IMHO.

Perhaps owing to the water filter, this pot makes excellent rich-tasting coffee. It seems to brew just long enough to make perfect coffee for most folks' tastes. For stronger coffee, I can make fewer cups and use more ground coffee. If I'm really in need of a strong cuppa, I'll simply use my French press. I have never had the ground coffee overflow the filter doing this. Also, the heating element seems set to the perfect temperature, since I have never had a cup of coffee from this pot that tasted burnt...and on a number of mornings, I have barely gotten up in time to hear the beep signaling the end of hot coffee.

Best features of this machine--absolutely drip-free pot, unrivaled pure coffee taste, large capacity pot, variable settings for when the heating element will turn off, and an internal clock that retains settings with short interruptions of power.

Improvements that could be made--I wish it had a removable reservoir, but the one pot that I have used that had that feature made the worst coffee I've ever made at home, not to mention the leaky pot.

If you're not looking for espresso, but just a clean, pure cup of good coffee...even when "Early Bird" isn't your middle name, I think you've found what you're looking for in this machine.

Worth it!
After trying the 12 cup Cuisinart, a Delonghi and 2 different Krups models we have fallen in love with this one. The water level indicator may be a slight drawback but since since we fill the coffeemaker from the pot it's no problem for us.

I absolutely love the larger capacity, we don't make a full pot that often but when we need to it's just right. It makes a great cup of coffee and it looks great on the counter, too.

I deducted one star for their failure to backlight the display. You'd think for a hundred bucks they would light the clock so you can actually see it. Other than that, best coffeemaker for the money out of all the brands we've tried.

Nice update of the 12-cup model.
When my 5-year-old Cuisinart 12-cup Brew Central bit the dust last week, I was all set to order another to replace it. After twice-daily use, I figure we got between 3,000 to 3,500 pots of coffee out of this elegant workhorse and had no quarrel with it. But the 14-cup model, with its updated design features, turned out to be a better replacement - still able to make those 4-cup batches for just myself or a larger-volume pot, without sacrificing flavor. In fact, using the 1-4 cup selection on a larger batch results in near-espresso quality brew, and saves on coffee beans if you can be patient enough to await the slower drip. Since Amazon offered a $25 discount on $125 purchases, I also bought the new Cuisinart oval electric skillet, and got them both for a total of $174.90 with free delivery, within five days.

Cuisinart DCC-1100 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, White

           Product Description

This classically designed coffeemaker is accented with stainless steel for a look that is sure to enhance your countertop. It's also easy to pour water in the reservoir if you use the carafe. You can turn the coffee maker to the left, and the reservoir opening is easily accessible. Its opening is by no means tiny, as a reviewer described it.
The center funnel which holds the filter is well situated and there is very little risk of dropping coffee grounds into the water reservoir.
The carafe is well designed, with a comfortable handle. It pours neatly, without dripping coffee all over the counter, something which always happened with my old Mr. Coffee.
You do have to realize the lid snaps down on top of the carafe. This is not explained in the instructions.
Most importantly, it makes an excellent coffee.
There is a 3 year guaranty which is more than I have seen for others.
So far, I have no complaint, and I am glad I bought this product for a great price.

Best coffee maker I ever had!
My name is Ryan, and I'm a coffee addict... My habit ranges from 1 to 3 pots a day just to remain conscious. So you can understand the level of misery I have had to endure this past week as my 4 year old Gevalia machine met an untimely death during a recent lightning storm. I then began the hunt for a new machine. Basically, Amazon was my first stop since they have everything. I read all sorts of reviews, and finally settled on this one. I must say, this is by far the best machine I've ever owned.

In reading the reviews, I found a few gripes that I don't agree with, so here's my response to those:

1. The number one gripe I see is filling difficulty. The fill hole is much larger than my old machine. Some people said its too small and makes a huge mess. My first time, it did drip a little bit but if you leave the lid off the pot while pouring, works like a charm. Let me put it this way... I wake up in the morning with the jitters, like a fiend looking for some crack... If I can pour it without making a mess ANYONE can. And that's a fact.

2. Numero Dos: Programming difficulty. I'm no rocket scientist by any means, but I had this thing programmed within about 5 minutes. I had no problem understanding the directions. I believe most gripes in this area are operator error.

3. Basket issues: It doesn't stand up on it's own, true, but I don't understand how anyone could miss the basket. Leave it in the machine for pete sake! I hope they don't miss their mouth with that hot coffee! Again, If I can do it without making a mess, anyone can. As for choosing paper or mesh filter, paper of course filters better, but mesh makes it stronger and leaves a bit of sediment in the pot... each way has it's benefits depending on how you like yours.

4. Flip-top so large you have to pull it out from under the counter: True, but how lazy can you be... honestly? It's not that hard of a chore. You'd be hard pressed to find a machine that isn't like this.

I, like others, had some pre-conceived notions from negative reviews, but I found most if not ALL of those to be some pretty weak arguments. I guess some people have more problems than others when trying to understand directions and such. This machine is top notch for the price, hands down!

Everything you could want
Hello fellow coffee drinkers. Like most of you I have looked long and hard for a good basic coffee maker. In the last 5 years I have gone through 4 new products and have been quite dissapointed in this whole experience. I mean how hard can it be to make a good coffee maker. I had the basic braun coffee maker for 10 years and loved it. However, two new braun coffee makers later I realized that quality had gone down the drain with the coffee grinds. Then I purchased a krups. I returned it to the store within two weeks as it stopped working. They gave me a replacement which lasted just past the warranty. (figures) Then I tried a GE combo grinder brewer. That was the worst mistake I could have ever made. The first sign that it was garbage should have been when the GE emblem fell off. It leaked. It spilled. I spent more time cleaning than brewing, and thankfully it didn't last as long as its warranty and I had no intentions of getting another one free or not.

I have had this cuisinart now for three weeks. It does everything it says it will do. It never leaks, spills or makes a mess. As per the other reviews I feel it could have a bigger fill area but it really is no more difficult to fill than any other brewer I have owned. (don't let that stand in the way of buying this) I also think it is very easy to program and will even keep your settings in memory if it is unpluged for a short period of time.

This coffee maker works perfect and I hope it lasts as long as the warranty and beyond.

Happy brewing.

Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, Black

           Product Description

4-cup stainless steel carafe with dripless pour spout and knuckle guard Brew Pause? feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before brewing has finished 30-minute automatic shutoff On indicator light 3-year limited warranty 6 11/16 W x 11 1/64 H x 8 21/32 D weighs 4 lbs.

Customer Reviews

Our coffee maker is a jewel
There are just two of us so a large 10 cup machine is not practical so we bought this beautiful little machine for our kitchen. I have owned more expensive "full-size" machines, and have always found that the quality of the coffee they make is quite poor when you are only preparing three or four cups. This cuisinart is a pleasant change on that score. The coffee I made this morning was flavorful and hot, and certainly better than what I can get at Starbucks or the equivalent. I'm a bit baffled by the negative comments I have read about the machine's design. I've had not even a little trouble with pouring, removing the lid, etc. In short, get this machine if you want high quality coffee in three or four cup doses.

A decent coffee maker
As a student, my coffee pot is my life-blood. I adore this little guy. I've had it for about a year with no technical problems. I will agree with the other reviewers that the caraffe will dribble if you don't pour quickly, and it does not stay hot long after the auto shut-off. However, this is rarely a problem for me as I am hardly ever still around 30 minutes later (must be nice!). My coffee is perfect every time, the machine is easy to clean, and it's compact and fairly stylish.

One other warning: it has a feature where you can pour a cup before it is finished brewing (the filter basket blocks the drip if you remove the caraffe), but I would not recommend doing this. When coffee brews, it does not brew at the same strength for the entire brewing cycle. The water that first goes through the coffee grounds encounter more resistance, thus spending more time going through, thus making the beginning of the pot a lot stronger than the the last of it. You really need to let the whole pot (or however many cups you are making) finish brewing before drinking the coffee. This, too, is not something I've had much problem with, as the brew cycle is really fast - 5 minutes for 2 cups. Anyway, just a little coffee tip.

Cuisinart® 12-cup Coffee Maker - Black Chrome Series

           Product Description

* Charcoal water filter helps produce great-tasting coffee by removing impurities * Indicator light tells you when it's time to clean your coffeemaker to remove calcium buildup * Heater plate has 3 settings, so you can decide how hot the coffee stays * 12-cup carafe with ergonomic handle, drip-less spout and knuckle guard * Programmable automatic shutoff, 0-4 hours

Customer Reviews

one minor flaw
I am VERY picky when it comes to coffee makers and have trouble finding one that doesn't make the coffee taste like plastic. This one works fine for me. I owned a DeLonghi before this one for about 6 years and the new DeLonghis have suffered a setback in quality as far as I am concerned. I returned about 3 of them. The minor flaw in this coffee maker is that the water gauge is on the inside and it is a little hard to tell what the level is. It is also a little tricky to pour water into. That wasn't enough for me to return it though, since the coffee tasted great!

Great So Far
I purchased this coffee maker 4 months ago and it has worked wonderful so far. This is the 3rd coffee maker I have had in the last year. It told me last week to clean it and I did. Makes wonderful coffee set to my taste, and stays as hot as I want it to. Looks sleek and beautiful on the cabinet. Only drawbacks are you have to pour slow so you don't dribble (but only when I rush) and clock can't be seen in dark, only used to program it. I hope it lasts as long as it is warranteed for but would take 2 years.

Better designed than I thought...
I read reviews obsessively and couldn't find the combination of features and looks and color I wanted (I got this in white), and settled on this one.

I was worried about how difficult it would be to pour water in b/c of the placement of the well, but what you find out is that the Cuisinart pot is perfectly designed to sit on the lip of the well and pour the water on.

Wish the lid on the pot were attached with a lever, instead of being a pop on and off affair... and if I break the pot - oi - doesn't seem like a cheap replacement.

Small minus points for plastic knobs with cheap feeling little silver lines painted on which look like they'll get stripped off.. As mentioned the water gage is inside and isn't the easiest to read, you just have to measure carefully before you pour in - no biggie. And small minus for the faintness of the LED clock, and that to program the machine, you have to click TWO settings, not one, but still - I'm more impressed than I expected.

And Big points for style.

Oh - and no plastic taste here.

Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker

           Product Description

The Grind & Brew Coffeemaker from Cuisinart automatically grinds the beans right before brewing to produce a fresh and flavorful pot of coffee. This is the second coffee maker like this that I have owned and I am glad that I have come home. When my coffee on demand went out, I purchased another brand coffee maker and returned it within 3 days.

My husband and I consider ourselves coffee snobs and about a year ago began purchasing our coffee whole bean solely and thought it would be a great "ease" in our morning coffee routine to own this machine again.

I have read reviews about the difficulty of cleaning and noise of the grinder. It is actually really easy. After I grind and brew a pot of deliciously strong, rich, hot coffee; I open the lid and take out the grinder rinse it off with hot water and set it on a towel. I then take out the gold tone filter, empty the grounds, rinse it and set it on the towel. Then I remove the filter basket and lid and rinse them and set them on the towel. I leave the top lid open to dry out the inside and by the time I am ready to brew another pot of coffee all parts and inside of the machine are dry and ready to go. All together it takes me less than minutes to clean it. And then when all the parts are ready for a deep clean, I through all parts, including the carafe and lid, into the dishwasher. Piece of cake.

All in all this is the most incredible coffee maker that I have ever owned and the easiet to use and I don't have to worry now about replacing my worn out bean grinder, my coffee maker doesn it for me.

And a note about the grinder basket. I have read reviews that have said that it doesn't hold enough beans for a full 12 cups and then it can't be adjusted for the 1-4 cup feature. The grinder holds just as many beans as what I used in my counter top grinder for 12 cups. And if you only want to brew 1-4 cups of coffee, only put in enough beans for 1-4 cups. The grinder will still run for the 30 seconds that it is set for the 12 cups but it works well and you don't even realize it's doing it.

I would highly recommend anyone who loves to brew whole bean coffee, whether occasionally or everyday, to buy this machine. You don't have to always brew whole beans it this machine, you can turn off the grinder and place pre-ground coffee right into the filter. Also a piece of cake.

I would also recommend that you try the gold tone filter that comes with it. It mixes the oil from the whole bean in with the coffee and gives such a boost in the coffees smoothness and flavor.

Outstanding service support!
I purchased this coffee maker in August of 2005 from a local retailer, and it has performed flawlessly until today (Dec. 30, 2007). I clean the machine every weekend, since we have highly calcified water where I live. Today, it would not heat the water enough to cause the dripping cycle to operate and some water leaked out of the bottom of the machine onto my countertop.

I called the customer service folks (keep those owner's manuals and purchase receipts) and was pleased to learn that this coffee maker has a three-year warranty. They are sending a replacement coffee maker immediately at no cost to me! All I have to do is send the defective one back to them when the new one arrives(about a $10 cost to me).

I was very pleased with the treatment I received from the service rep on the phone. I have nothing but praise for Cusinart products (I have a blender and a food processor too), and now I can vouch that they stand behind their merchandise, even after 2+ years of use.

Incidentally, the coffe maker grinds coffee and brews it better than any machine I have ever owned. It is a bit noisy when the grinder kicks on, but we've grown accustomed to its 30-second whine. The machine requires careful, daily cleaning and might be too high-maintenance for some folks; but if you like great coffee, fresh-ground and steaming hot at wakeup every day, this machine will not disappoint.

Highly recommended.

Ummm Ummm Fresh Ground and Brewed...
I did alot of research before purchasing this coffee machine. Read so many reviews and finally decided to do it. I am so pleased with this product. I realize some people feel it is too noisy (when it grinds the coffee beans, JUST before brewing) and I can say it is noisy. (My own individual grinder was pretty noisy too) So for me to be able to wake up to freshly ground and brewed coffee it worth it. My machine goes off at 5:50am and I do not even hear it.I get up around 6am and have great coffee.I choose to clean it when I am done and head out to work at 6:50am. When I get home all the parts are dry and I simply set it all up for the next day. I do have a suggestion, do not buy the coffee maker paired with the goldtoned filter as advertised on Amazon. It is the wrong filter for that machine. The machine comes with it's own goldtoned filter basket. All in all this is a great coffee maker.

Cuisinart DCC-1150BK 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker, Black

           Product Description

The sleek, attractive thermal carafe and stainless accents blend seamlessly to achieve a classic look with modern conveniences. I was debating between this 10-cup thermal ($80), the 12-cup thermal ($130), and the 12-cup glass carafe with warming plate ($80), all by Cuisinart. In the end, I wanted something that used less electricity, so I went with the thermal. The added bonus with a thermal is that the coffee taste doesn't change from your first cup to your second cup a few hours later. I finally decided to save $50 and buy the 10-cup thermal because everything else was the same except for the 10 ounce difference (both coffeemakers brew 5 oz cups). I purchased mine from a different store, and I found out that there was no gold cone filter. I called up Cuisinart and they said depending on where you purchased the coffeemaker, it may use paper cones, or it may come with the gold cone filter. They graciously sent me a gold cone for free. So after 3 weeks:

PROS:
-easy to set up, easy to use
-charcoal water filter (I use tap water, so I like the fact that the machine filters it before going into my coffee)
-auto brew timer (the smell of coffee helps me wake up in the morning and I am fully brain dead when I first wake up. I can barely get dressed, much less make coffee. So I set it up the night before and I have amazing, fresh coffee ready for me in the AM).
-beeps to signal that coffee is ready
-coffee stays fresh for at least 4 hours. On weekends, I set my coffee to brew as normal at 7AM, but sometimes I sleep late until 11AM or later. I go to pour my coffee and it's still steaming! (and not burnt from the warming plate)
-thermal carafe saves electricity because there is no need for a warming plate
-I can use both paper cone filters or the gold cone filter. The gold cone is just as easy to clean as the disposable paper cones. I just shake out the grinds into the trash, and rinse with water. SO easy. And I save money because I don't have to buy filters!
-I drink my coffee black, so I can tell good coffee from bad coffee. I also like my coffee strong and bold. When I'm lazy, I use Illy medium grind, medium roast pre-ground. One mountainous scoop (comes with the coffeemaker) per 10 oz. of coffee. My one mug of coffee is equal to the coffeemaker's two cups, so yes, the machine makes 5 mugs total. When I make coffee for just myself, I fill the reservoir to 2 cups, add one giant scoop of coffee to the filter, press the 1-4 cups button, turn the dial to brew, and press "on." I love it.
-I have no problem with the size of the machine (I thought it was small). It is sitting on a side table in my tiny kitchen, not on the countertop or underneath cabinets. So I can easily flip up the top and have easy access to the water reservoir. It is also on the right side of the table, so I just use a cup and pour water into the reservoir. I don't think it's hard at all to pour water in. The triangular opening is on the right, back corner of the machine and is about 3" x 3" x 4".
-The water level is very clearly marked and easy to see on the right side of the machine.

CONS:
-The beep is not just one cute beep. It is 4 or 5 beeps in a row. This could be annoying to some people.
-Not really a con for me, but other people have commented on the pouring as "difficult." I think it is the nature of a thermal carafe to require some patience when pouring into a cup. It is well sealed to keep the coffee hot, so when you pour, the liquid has to go through a maze to get out. On my last cup, I just take the top off and pour. Definitely worth the "effort." It's really not hard, I promise. :)
-I read reviews of how people wake up with coffee all over the counter because the carafe was clogged at the top. So whenever I set up the machine to brew, I make sure to rinse the top with hot water and shake it around a bit to make sure the little ball isn't stuck. Also, not difficult to do.
-I guess if you don't have easy access to the right side of this machine, it could be difficult to pour water in and see the water level. If it's in the middle of your countertop, you may have to turn it to the side in order to pour the water in. For me, it's easy because my coffeemaker sits on the right side of a table in my kitchen.

I am so glad I went with this machine. I hope it lasts for a long time.

Wonderful coffee maker
I purchased this coffeemaker after careful research and like it very much. It makes delicious coffee that stays hot for about 4 hours. The coffee retains good flavor for the whole time. It is also easy to clean. With a regular coffee pot (not thermal), the coffee loses its flavor after an hour. This one meets my needs. Also, Cuisinart warranties it for 3 years. I have owned a grind and brew coffee maker and prefer this one which I use in conjunction with my grinder.

It isn't perfect, but the small drawbacks don't bother me. Yes, it is a little hard at first to read the fill markings for water. To get the last bit of coffee out of the carafe, you do have to take off the lid and really tilt the carafe. On the other hand, that last bit tastes good.

I also like the looks of this device. The stainless steel goes with many other appliances. Overall, it is a recommend.

LT

Great concept, good coffee
I knew I wanted my next coffee maker to have a thermal carafe -- for energy efficiency, better taste, and no more worries about turning the machine off. This machine shines in all those ways, and I am surprised how liberated I feel not having to worry about having turned off the coffee maker (somehow this concern would always arise mid-commute). This machine turns off as soon as the brew cycle stops; the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot so no heating plate is needed.

My only complaints, which are noted by other reviewers, concern the design of the carafe. It is difficult to completely empty. As a result, the carafe cannot be used to fill the water tank, as getting the last bit of water out will cause some spillage. I use a small pitcher instead. And yes, the carafe pours slowly. I assume that this, and the difficulty emptying, are by-products of a design that effectively keeps the heat in without needing to open of loosen the lid to pour. Although they produce a bit of a hassle, for me these problems don't negate the benefits of the thermal carafe. The coffee stays warm, even when the carafe is only partially filled, allowing me to drink it leisurely through the morning with consistent flavor from first cup to last (3 hours).

The machine is a bit bigger than my old bare-bones coffee maker, but fits easily under the upper cabinets. I do have to slide it out to open the lid and use, but I did that with my smaller model as well.

I would absolutely buy this again.
